Minister Kuipers blunders at Beau | Inland

Every day, many tens of thousands of Dutch people test positive for the corona virus. The government requires them to be in isolation for at least seven days. Only those who are symptom-free after seven days are allowed to go outside again. The isolation period lasts a maximum of fourteen days.

At talk show Beau it turned out that Minister Kuipers did not know that. Telegraaf commentator Wouter de Winther asked him whether the isolation period now lasts seven days. “Ehhh, that’s exactly, eh, around,” replied Kuipers. The minister could not say whether that period could be shortened. “The question is: how safe can that be?”, he said.

Due to the high number of corona infections, the dropout rate at work is high: problems arise in all kinds of sectors. For example, trains are cancelled, classes are sent home and flights are cancelled. Kuipers acknowledges that this is a problem. He also points out that healthcare is still suffering from the influx of corona patients.

The cabinet announced tonight that it plans to considerably relax the corona rules from next Friday. For example, the catering industry can open until 1 am. The one and a half meter rule also expires in many places. According to Kuipers, it is legally not possible to relax earlier than next Friday.
