Michelle Yeoh won the Oscar for Best Actress for her role in Everything Everywhere All at Once on Sunday (March 12). Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert’s parallel universe fantasy comedy was the night’s big hit: seven Academy Awards. Yeoh capped off her long career with the win. She is the first Asian woman to receive the award in the awards’ 95-year history. Also the second non-white woman after Halle Berry to receive the 2002 award for her role in Monsters Ball. Berry then also presented this year’s award to Yeoh.

Oscar Analysis:

Yeoh’s family, including her mother, watched the ceremony during a watch party in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. A camera crew on site captured the moment the 84-year-old watched her daughter write herself in the history books. At a press conference ahead of time, Janet Yeoh said she had no doubts about the prospects of winning.

Michelle, in turn, dedicated the trophy to her and all mothers in the world at a press conference on the show. “They are true superheroes and none of us would be here today without them.”
