Michael van Gerwen about altercation: ‘Humphries said I was coughing’ | Darts

Humphries led the game at one point 9-7, but then lost the last three legs despite having five match darts at his disposal. The Englishman himself was of the opinion that Van Gerwen – at least during the last leg – took him out of his game.

“He said I was coughing,” Van Gerwen explained. According to the Dutchman, there was no reason to do so at the time. “He was already 200 points behind. It’s not smart of him to make such a comment. He only gets himself in trouble with that, nobody wants that. Everyone wants a fair game.”

Van Gerwen was not pleased with his game against Humphries. “Happy with the win, but not with my game. Now I have to make sure I sleep well and be ready again tomorrow (Sunday, ed.).”

Van Gerwen will meet Joe Cullen in the quarterfinals. “It should be better, but it really shouldn’t get any worse. I’ll have to do better, it’s that simple.”
