The Stuttgart start-up AutoRetouch has belonged to the French digital photo service provider Meero since January 1st. The retailer E. Breuninger GmbH & Co. said on Tuesday that the purchase price would not be disclosed. The company had backed AutoRetouch as an investor since its inception in 2020.

“The idea for AutoRetouch came up in 2019 in Breuninger’s data science team, when the aim was to use artificial intelligence (AI) to solve the processing of product photos for the online shop more efficiently,” explained the Stuttgart retail group in a statement. AutoRetouch GmbH was founded in 2020, in which Breuninger was an investor right from the start. The young company, which offers its solutions using a “Software as a Service” (SaaS) platform, quickly developed into an important service provider: “As early as 2021, the start-up was automatically processing a seven-digit number of product images in the cloud for its customers ‘ said Breuninger.

Holger Blecker, CEO of Breuninger, welcomed the now completed takeover by the French company Meero, which offers on-demand solutions for the digital processing of photos: “We are very pleased that AutoRetouch has quickly become a company of considerable importance relevance,” he said in a statement. “As a founding investor, it was important to us to set the course for independent further development at an early stage.”
