The German golf star Martin Kaymer has become a father for the first time. Girlfriend Irene Scholz gave birth to son Sam.
The two-time major champion announced this on social media on Saturday. “There are good moments and less good moments in life, but then there are these moments that are indescribable,” wrote Kaymer, 37, to a photo.
“It will probably be the biggest challenge of my life, but I’m really looking forward to it,” Kaymer said about being a parent last September. However, there could be problems with the necessary rigor for the offspring, the top golfer suspected in the RTL interview: “I think the difficulty for me will be that I bring the emotional side into the upbringing and am not too soft.”
Kaymer is currently taking a break from competitions due to the birth. He plans to return to the US in March.
