It is freezing in Izegem and the away fans who have traveled with us have difficulty warming themselves. Only after 23 minutes does Mandel create his first chance. D’hondt delivers a measured cross to Vanvaerenbergh’s head. He heads beautifully into the bottom right corner and makes the 1-0 that lasts until after half time.
Mandel United starts the second half dramatically. After a minute, a corner kick is headed into his own goal by Verkerken, making it back to square one at 1-1. Less than 10 minutes later, D’hondt is there again with a cross. Vervaecke calmly runs into the ball and makes it 2-1.
Bram Lucker, coach of KVK Westhoek, responds: “Based on the game and the chances, I think Westhoek deserved at least one point and perhaps three points. But that is football. Unfortunately, we were unable to materialize those chances.”
Mandel United will go to the top match against KV Diksmuide Oostende next week with 12 out of 12.
