For a failed scam of an 86-year-old woman from the neighborhood of Anreep near Assen, a 21-year-old man from Amsterdam has been sentenced to a sixty-hour work sentence and a conditional imprisonment of a week.
The elderly woman was called last year on 23 May by someone who occurred as an agent. Unlike it had been aiming for her jewelry. To help her, an agent would visit her to value her valuables and secure. The daughter of the woman smelled trouble and intervened. She called the police.
A white car at the house stopped a little later. A teenager from Almere got out and rang the bell. He was arrested by a real agent. The car containing the suspects from Amsterdam and a one year older from Almere drove away in great hurry. The car was arrested on the deep straw in Assen. The Amsterdammer was behind the wheel.
At the time, he earned a living as runner. He brought the two others to Drenthe, today he told the police court in Assen. He said he knew nothing about their plans. “It is also not neat to ask customers what they intend,” he said. But his phone stood notes of the jewelry of the older woman, who had to be taken.
The agents in his phone also found a script that is used to inform people. The latter is punishable. The Amsterdammer did not know that script. “Saved by accident,” he said. His lawyer also argued for a complete acquittal due to insufficient debt. The judge did not agree with that. “Annoying facts that harm confidence in the police,” she said.
The 22-year-old man from Almere was sentenced in Assen at the beginning of February to a community service sentence of sixty hours and a two-week prison sentence. The minor has been convicted in his housing region. It is not known what the juvenile court judge has imposed on him.
