A house on the Desmijndijk in Roosendaal will be closed for four weeks longer. The mayor decided that on Tuesday after another attempt at the house was an attack on Monday evening. Last month there was an explosion, on which the house was locked for four weeks. This closure is now being extended.

Around ten o’clock in the evening an attempt was made to let explosives explode. This failed, two Cobra’s 9 were left behind the front door. The Explosives Exploration (TEV) team was called in and the explosives are secured by a specialized company. The police started an investigation after the discovery of the illegal fireworks.

Last month a Molotov cocktail was thrown in. The mayor of Roosendaal then decided to close the house for four weeks. The closure is not used as a punishment, but as protection of the neighborhood and the residents. “I understand very well that this situation has a great impact on the feeling of safety in the neighborhood. We want the peace to return to the neighborhood,” says the mayor.

The incident is not in itself. A few months earlier, one block away was also thrown in at a house. Although the police do not want to confirm this, according to local residents, violence incidents have to do with the trade in drugs.

“They can stick a sticker and a few adhesive straps on the front door, but that doesn’t help,” says one of them. The lawyer of the main occupant of the house on the Desmijndijk that was closed last month refuses to comment further. “That is not in the interest of my client,” he says when asked.

After a succession of earlier incidents, there was camera surveillance in the neighborhood for a short time. “I don’t know if that would help now, but then it was at least quiet for a while. It is now waiting for the next blow. I keep my shutters closed,” says a local resident who wants to stay anonymous.
