Man drives over post and traffic sign in Den Helder, then flees

A man knocked over a traffic bollard and a traffic sign in the Waddenzeestraat in Den Helder around nine o’clock last night. When police arrived at the van, the suspect had already fled.

The van – PRIO1 Den Helder

According to bystanders, the driver would have driven another 300 meters after the collisions until the bus came to a stop. He continued on foot. He, a 39-year-old man from Amsterdam, was arrested after a short search, the police reported.

He was taken to the station for a breathalyzer test. It turned out that the suspect had drunk too much. His driver’s license has been taken away. The Public Prosecution Service is continuing to investigate the case.
