Maastricht Aachen Airport remains within noise limits | 1Limburg

The number of flight movements at Maastricht Aachen Airport (MAA) was lower in 2021 than in the years before the corona crisis. As a result, no noise exceedances were observed.

This is according to the Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT), which checks whether the airports Lelystad Airport (LA), Rotterdam The Hague Airport (RTHA) and MAA comply with the noise standards when using the regional airports. Departure routes that are allowed to fly as little as possible over inhabited areas are also being looked at.

Coronavirus
The noise exposure generally resembles 2020 and deviates strongly from 2019, the year in which the corona virus had not yet loomed. This is particularly visible in the enforcement points and the number of night flights.

Sound
Specifically for MAA, ILT says that Limburg airport operated within the limits of the maximum permitted noise. No violations were found in the three night flights either.

reprimand
On one of the fourteen flights that deviated from the departure route, the relevant airline that departed from MAA was reprimanded. The airline has received a warning letter for this.

Noise standards and rules
Noise standards and rules for the use of the airport apply to all regional airports in the Netherlands. ILT prepares an annual report that covers the period from November 1 to October 31.
