According to BZ information, six “Last Generation” activists received mail from the lawyer for Lufthansa subsidiary Eurowings at the beginning of October. In it: the request to transfer 120,000 euros by the middle of the month.

Background: In November 2022, the climate stickers blocked several airports, including Berlin’s BER airport. They cut through the fence, broke into the security area and triggered a major operation by the federal police responsible for airports.

The capital’s airport was paralyzed for two hours – with severe consequences for the Lufthansa Group. There were ten cancellations and one alternative landing (Leipzig). 21 flights were delayed, including planes from Lufthansa, Swiss, Austrian and Eurowings.

According to BZ information, the group is “jointly and severally liable”, so the bill went to all six activists. If the invoice is not paid on time, Lufthansa will sue for the claim.

A Lufthansa spokesman confirmed to BZ: “Eurowings will claim material damages for the airlines of the Lufthansa Group caused by the actions of activists at the airports in Berlin, Düsseldorf and Hamburg. This has already happened for the campaign in Berlin. We cannot comment on ongoing proceedings beyond this.”

In a letter to Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (53, SPD), Justice Minister Marco Buschmann (46, FDP) and Transport Minister Volker Wissing (53, FDP) are calling for tougher punishments for climate criminals and a tightening of the aviation security law.
