Lübeck dismisses coach Florian Schnorrenberg after nine games

It wasn’t until December that Florian Schnorrenberg started the rescue mission at third division club VfB Lübeck. Now he has to vacate the spot on the sideline again.

The third division team VfB Lübeck, which is in acute danger of relegation, has separated from coach Florian Schnorrenberg. The Lübeck team announced this after the 0:3 (0:1) defeat at bottom team SC Freiburg II on Monday. VfB sports director Sebastian Harms said: “Unfortunately, the sporting development in the past few weeks has not been what we had all hoped for, so after the recent performances we consider another personnel change in the coaching position to be unavoidable.”

Initially, assistant coach Bastian Reinhardt will step in again as interim coach. Reinhardt had already stepped in after coach Lukas Pfeiffer left. Schnorrenberg was only presented as his successor on December 27, 2023. He was supposed to stabilize the promoted team and lead them out of the relegation zone.

Several clear defeats

Recently, however, Lübeck suffered several clear defeats, including a 7-2 defeat at Dynamo Dresden. There was also a 3-0 defeat against rivals Hallescher FC. After a 0-0 draw against 1. FC Saarbrücken, Schnorrenberg’s team recently lost in an extremely one-sided game against bottom-placed Freiburg.

“The last game in Freiburg still has an effect on me,” Schnorrenberg was quoted as saying in the statement. “The six points from nine games and especially the away record are not the expectations I had.” The newcomer from the Hanseatic city is in 19th place in the table with 23 points after 29 games.
