Be careful if you drive on the A50 often: the highway will be closed for four nights this week. This is due to work by Rijkswaterstaat.
A different section is closed off every night. The closures all apply from nine o’clock in the evening until five o’clock the next morning.
For example, the road towards Nijmegen will be closed between the Ekkersweijer junction and Son en Breugel from Monday evening to Tuesday morning. The connecting road from the A2 from Den Bosch and Best to the A50 is also closed.
When is the A50 closed?
On Tuesday evening you cannot travel to Eindhoven on the stretch of highway between Son en Breugel and Best. The A2 Best exit towards Den Bosch is also closed.
The A50 will close again towards Eindhoven on Wednesday evening, this time between Veghel and Son en Breugel. Thursday evening is the last evening: the highway towards Nijmegen between Helmond and Veghel is closed.
Why is the A50 closed?
Rijkswaterstaat (RWS) carries out maintenance on those nights. “This includes repair and replacement of asphalt, mowing and possible maintenance of signs, markings and installations along the road,” RWS reports.
The detour takes a maximum of twenty minutes. There are yellow signs along the road that you can follow. In the direction of Nijmegen, motorists are diverted via the A2, in the direction of Eindhoven this is done via the N279 and the A2.
