Liverpool also win against Leicester

Liverpool (dpa) – Liverpool FC has celebrated its third consecutive win in the English Premier League. After beating Leicester City 2-0 (1-0), the team of German coach Jürgen Klopp is now nine points behind champions Manchester City, who have played one more game.

Diogo Jota (34/87) scored twice for the Reds, where Africa Cup of Nations finalist Mohamed Salah came on after the hour.

The Reds took the lead from a corner. Apart from that, the strong Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel could not sufficiently fend off a header from defender Virgil van Dijk – Jota had no trouble with a dust-off. Liverpool missed the best chances in the second half, including Salah only hit the crossbar (78th). Jota made the decision late.

Klopp still had to do without Sadio Mané, who won the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal against Egypt for Salah on Sunday.
