Ten years after the first part of the EP series, DROP 7 now follows with seven new songs.
Little Simz is always up for surprises: The British native released her sixth album NO THANK YOU in 2022 without prior notice. Now fans can enjoy their new EP DROP 7, which marks the seventh part of a long-standing series. In keeping with the EP title, there are seven songs whose names already underline that the rapper gives a reflective insight into her emotional world.
Rap meets club sounds
Four years after DROP 6, the successor is coming. The work differs from the other EPs, especially in terms of sound, because Little Simz now gives the whole thing a more clubby nuance. The producer Jakwob – who has already worked with artists such as Charlie XCX, Aurora and Shygirl – underlines the rap lyrics with drum’n’bass influences, trap beats and Amapianos. In harmony with this, the rapper serves up self-confident lyrics that celebrate her success sometimes harder, sometimes softer. She explains in the interlude “Power”: “When I say that I am the greatest, I mean it.” At the same time, in “Far Away” she replaces rap with singing and in “Fever” she sometimes even replaces English with Portuguese. So who can blame Little Simz for praising herself here and there after such a high yet multi-faceted output?
