Christian Horner and Red Bull have been going their separate ways since this summer. There is always new speculation about the Brit. Lewis Hamilton reacts annoyed.
Lewis Hamilton wanted to get the issue over with quickly. At the press conference before the US Grand Prix, the record world champion was curt when it came to Christian Horner’s possible future at Ferrari. Hamilton was asked whether it was a good idea to install the former Red Bull team boss in Maranello. His short answer: “I don’t think so.” He didn’t want to say anything more about it – and only added that he didn’t want to “feed any rumors.”
But he couldn’t completely get rid of the topic in Austin. The speculation surrounding Horner, who had to leave Red Bull under controversial circumstances in the summer, had recently picked up speed again. His name is repeatedly associated with Ferrari – the team that has remained winless so far this season.
Hamilton then commented on the rumor in more detail to Sky. “I don’t know where this comes from, I can’t shed much light on this matter,” said the 39-year-old and added: “As a team, it distracts us a bit.”
Ferrari team boss Fred Vasseur had received support from the racing team just a few months ago. In July, Ferrari extended the contract with the Frenchman – despite ongoing criticism of his work. “The team has made it clear where it stands,” said Hamilton. “Fred and I and the whole racing team are working very hard on Ferrari’s future. And things like that don’t help.”
After 20 highly successful years, Horner was released last July from the then-struggling Red Bull team led by series champion Max Verstappen. Such a decision was already in the offing at the beginning of the 2024 season. At that time, a former employee made serious allegations against Horner, accusing the Brit of “inappropriate behavior”.
Horner was initially allowed to stay, but cracks became apparent and the separation followed this summer. Apparently the 51-year-old is drawn back to Formula 1: Horner is currently calling “pretty much every team owner,” said Aston Martin team boss Andy Cowell recently.
