Olympique Lyon makes use of a “joker” rule and signs defender Hans Hateboer. The 31-year-old Dutchman is coming from Stade Rennes on loan until the end of the season. Hateboer was a regular player for much of last season, but recently the veteran has barely been used. The right-footer was trained at FC Groningen. Hateboer appeared 13 times for the Dutch national team, most recently in June 2022 in the Nations League against Wales (3:2).

Paragraph 213 of the regulations of the French Football Association FFF states that clubs from Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 are allowed to sign a “joker” in addition to professionals without a contract. A player may be transferred within the leagues between the end of the summer transfer window and the start of the winter transfer window.

Lyon is in fourth place after seven match days. In the summer, the club invested almost 37 million euros in additions, compared to around 106 million euros in player sales.
