In a letter, the mayors of Den Bosch, Eindhoven and Tilburg (in their capacity as chairman of their security region) addressed all carnival people from Brabant on Tuesday. “It’s that time of the year again. That time of year when we people from Brabant get a little carried away. The sun is showing itself more often and the days are getting longer. For many of us, that means: carnival is approaching Thanks to the current relaxation, we can still share some of that party feeling with each other.”
Johan de Vos, chairman of Koninklijke Horeca Nederland Breda (also on behalf of KHN Den Bosch, Eindhoven and Tilburg) and Rob van de Laar, chairman of the Brabant Carnival Federation, also signed the letter, which was written in response to the relaxation of the corona measures.
“Carnival is different from what we are used to. Because in Brabant we are Burgundian and hospitable and we warmly welcome everyone who wants to get acquainted with our rich traditions. Hopefully from next year we can open the gates wide again for anyone who wants to know We therefore sincerely hope that carnival-loving Brabant will once again put their shoulders to the wheel to make this great party possible.”
“Carnival this year will therefore be a smaller party, primarily in the catering industry. Let’s enjoy it together in a good way. More is possible again, but we have to keep in mind that that is only possible if we stick to the rules out there.”
“Carnival 2022 will not be like all other editions. But after almost two years of sobriety and distance, the party, however small, will perhaps be all the more intense. Make it something beautiful and pay attention to each other.”
Health minister Ernst Kuipers called on carnival celebrants on Tuesday evening to take into account that the corona virus is still ‘far from’ gone. “Celebrate it in your own environment, go to the cafe, but avoid large crowds,” is his urgent advice. This is especially true for people in risk groups.
