Lega, the Football Association can commission it but takes time

On the government front, Vezzali wants a table for all sport. So the times get longer

In the end, it was kind of an own goal. Given that the Serie A clubs want economic and financial certainties quickly, the feeling is that even the “case” that broke out yesterday due to the letter sent to the Undersecretaries for Sport, Valentina Vezzali, and to the president of Coni, Giovanni Malagò, could lead to outcomes other than those hoped for. From the specter of the possible commissioner of the League itself, to the concomitance of the needs of football with the Beijing Winter Olympics, everything seems to be playing against the lords of the ball.

Commissioner

While waiting for the consultative section of the Coni College of Guarantee, chaired by Virginia Zambrano, to express itself on the request for legitimacy of the new federal statute, as requested by the Serie A League, the Football Federation could also decide to commission the top football starting from February 1, although today he will receive the letter from the League asking for a postponement of at least a couple of weeks before implementing the rules contained in the new statute. Moral: given that the new federal council has not yet been set, it is unlikely that President Gabriele Gravina will take such an initiative before the second half of February. Among other things, according to the sources of the Coni, the opinion of the College of Guarantee could be binding and therefore direct the decisions of all the actors appointed to play a leading role in this affair, which could alter the economic balance of the club. , starting, for example, from the sale of archival rights to that of the so-called television “mats”.

Slip

In any case, as we said, there is also the question of the timing of intervention regarding the Serie A requests. Yesterday President Malagò left for Beijing, while Undersecretary Vezzali – who should have left on February 3 – at least he will have to postpone for having contracted Covid. Vezzali herself, however, in some of the most recent sorties, as far as economic aid is concerned, had spoken of a shared table for the whole of sport, that is, without football enjoying a preferential lane. What does this mean? That to open the dialogue it will be necessary to involve all the disciplines and therefore wait until the end of February, when Malagò will be back from the Olympics.

Refreshments

In this sense, on the refreshment front due to the pandemic, the football clubs will still be called upon to navigate on sight, relying only on the certainty of aid for tampons and tax reliefs and installments. Too little, of course, but the divisions that the top ball highlighted yesterday once again does not help the plenipotentiaries – starting with President Gravina himself – to deal in the most effective way with the Draghi government, which at the moment however little is being spent on the strictly sporting front. All in all, there is no lack of “populist” prejudices towards elite football, but if it is true that form is substance, the letter to Vezzali and Malagò did not have the trappings of a “dolce stil novo” which perhaps would be needed .
