Hamburg (AP) – second division leader FC St. Pauli Hamburg has extended the contract with head coach Timo Schultz.

The 44-year-old former professional has been the coach of the Hamburg football club since July 2020. The club did not provide any information about the term of the new contract. “We want to consistently pursue the chosen path with Timo, so I am pleased that we now have clarity about the joint cooperation beyond the season,” said sports director Andreas Bornemann.

“It’s no secret that I feel at home at FC St. Pauli. I got a great opportunity here 1.5 years ago and now I’m ready to take the next step in development together with the club”, explained Schultz, who has been working in various functions at the Kiez Club for 16 years. St. Pauli welcomes FC Erzgebirge Aue on Saturday (1.30 p.m. / Sky) to kick off the rest of the second half of the season.

With Schultz, the team scored 75 points from 40 games across all seasons last year, making them the team with the highest points in the second division. The coach managed to lead the relegation-threatened club from 17th place to the top of the table.

President Oke Göttlich remembered the beginning of the head coach of Schultz. “Timo has already experienced a lot at FC St. Pauli and has been able to experience ups and downs since he took office without losing focus,” said the club boss and praised: “We also have two extraordinarily strong half-series with his input on content and the work with the Thanks to the team. “
