The state is actively taking measures to reduce the number of Russian smokers, including introducing fines and new labeling rules, as well as raising prices. This was stated by the lawyer of the European Legal Service Pavel Korytov, transfers Prime.

He recalled that since this year, Russians are prohibited from smoking in medical organizations, places of trade and in warehouses. For violation of the law, citizens can receive a fine of 2–3 thousand rubles, and in the event of a fire through the fault of a smoker – up to 5 thousand rubles. (Article 20.4 of the Administrative Code).

In addition, from September 1, property owners and business leaders will have to designate smoking areas and hang signs prohibiting smoking according to fire safety rules.

Korytov noted that cigarettes rose in price by 20% in 2021. The authorities continue to “tighten the screws” in the economic sense, he said. The lawyer recalled that from 2022, all participants in the circulation of products containing nicotine will be obliged to submit data to the Honest Mark labeling system only through an electronic document management (EDM) operator.
