At talks with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken discussed the situation in Ukraine, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a briefing on the results of this meeting. The broadcast was hosted by the media platform “Looking”.
“The American colleagues once again tried to put the problems on the border between Russia and Ukraine at the forefront, they tried to condition everything else on the need for the so-called de-escalation. This has already become a spell,” Lavrov said.
But negotiations ended with an agreement that next week Russia written responses will be provided to all its proposals for security guarantees. At the same time, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry is almost sure that the theme of Ukraine will be mentioned in the US response one way or another.
After receiving written responses to the proposals of the Russian Federation, according to Lavrov, a new contact with the United States is planned at the level of heads of diplomatic departments.
The Russian minister also informed that the European Union wants to create a military training mission in Ukraine. This will be an interesting twist in terms of EU ambitions. The Russian Federation believes that the issue of Ukraine requires close attention, but the whole topic of the European security architecture cannot be reduced to this, he explained.
Lavrov also specified that the current meeting in Geneva was intermediate, Blinken is satisfied with the exchange of views. The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry himself called the conversation with the US Secretary of State useful and frank.
