The USA returned Latvia’s under-20 ice hockey team to the ground and won 5-1.

Friday was one of the most amazing days in Latvian hockey history. Latvia defeated host Canada in the World Youth Championship in Ottawa with numbers 3–2 after the penalty shootout.
It was the first time that Latvia managed to beat Canada at this level. Even last year, Canada punished Latvia by as many as 10-0 at the World Cup.
However, the United States returned the well-fought Latvia to the soil on Saturday, and won the first series match of Group A with numbers 5–1. Two of the Yankees’ goals came on power play.
Latvia’s next game is on Monday against Germany.
Finland has played two games in Ottawa. Canada was stronger with 4–0 numbers, but the Young Lions defeated Germany 3–1.
On Sunday evening, Finland plays its third match of the tournament. The USA, the defending world champion of the age group, will skate against them.
