Lali González: “Beauty stereotypes are changing”

Paraguayan actress Lali Gonzalez, is beautiful, friendly and talented. In the field of entertainment, he achieved enormous popularity in Argentina thanks to his participation in the latest production of Polka, the daily strip “The 1-5 / 18″, Which emits thirteen. There she plays Rita, a woman who lives in that deprived neighborhood, a victim of her husband and the bad businesses in which he walks. But long before this opportunity, he jumped to international recognition, after addressing the beloved Liz, in the multi-award-winning and blockbuster thriller “7 Cajas”, shot in 2012 and nominated for the Goya as Best Foreign Film representing his native country.

In addition, she is a lawyer and is married to Walter Riveros; together, they are the parents of little Rafaela (2).

News: You did a lot of cinema and also theater, but in relation to the first one, what is the main difference between filming a feature film and recording a daily television strip?

Lali González: I think, without a doubt, it is the hourly load. The amount of scenes that can be done in a day of television is super different from the times of the cinema. I could experience it now. Likewise, each language has its own challenge. In a movie, on a camera, with two or three scenes, you spend all day. However, for TV, you can record fifteen. I also feel that, when it comes to composing and embodying the character to the full, in a film there are only desk jobs, rehearsals, weeks or months of filming available; On the other hand, a strip gives you more chances of being able to enrich the assembly of your interpretation throughout the recordings.

News: Were you able to do it with your Rita character?

Gonzalez: I have never done a strip before, it is the first time I have gone through this work experience and I am very eager, very restless, very curious. Which, I think, makes my enthusiasm awake with all the senses. So, thanks to the generosity of the production and management team, when proposing they allowed me to give Rita, in the beginning, not only my accent, but even a look like humor. Thus, his personality, now, is even mischievous, beyond his sad love story. In other words, the idea was not to draw her in a constant drama, but to also provide a break for the character who is already suffering, in everyday situations that women can have such as talks with friends, discussion with a partner, etc. What’s more, It seems to me that working for so long in a new country, with new colleagues, a new home, all of this influences creation.

News: How did you combine motherhood with moving?

Gonzalez: The proposal to be part of “La 1-5 / 18” came at a particular moment, when the entire entertainment sector in general, both in Paraguay, Argentina and in the world, was stopped. It was novel and risky to receive the invitation to leave my place, but that is part of the work of the actor or the artist, that we are as citizens of the world. I have it very clear because since I started this career I had to travel a lot and be at home a little. However, I have to admit that when there is a two-year-old girl, everything is different, because you have to reinstate yourself, think about school and your care. But the Argentine production and the companions behaved (and behave) wonderfully with me and provided me with all the comforts so that I did not feel far from home; on the contrary, I am at home. There was a super appropriate climate so that I can work calmly, being with my daughter.

News: Undoubtedly, the 21st century marks the empowerment of women in many fields, particularly in the artistic, how do you live it?

Gonzalez: I think we are moving forward. I cannot say by leaps and bounds with the changes that are being achieved, because women are fighting every day for salary parity and the protagonists. It happened to me when I read the scripts of this fiction that female roles were in a place of equal preponderance and that seemed quite valid to me. We are used to seeing soap operas told from the place of the man, of the gallant, and in “La 1-5 / 18” the women of the neighborhood are the ones who count from a leadership position. That is an interesting step. I must also say that I had the privilege of accumulating very good work experiences, even working pregnant.

News: Are Female Beauty Stereotypes Still Weighted?

Gonzalez: I don’t think they exist when it comes to starring in certain roles. The most important thing is to be authentic and feel safe with yourself. Those barriers or those stereotypes are opening up after being consumed for so long. Speaking from my place, I am not a skinny, blonde, light-eyed, tall woman; However, I feel quite confident, and in this profession, self-safety is vital, because it keeps you insecure all the time. Our career is full of “no” and if we are going to add that to it, it is too much. Actresses are not models, but people we interpret. Of course, you have to understand that there are physical characteristics of these characters that can be determining factors, both for men and women, when it comes to being selected, but our ability to address them is never at stake.

News: You studied and practiced law, did that profession remain in a drawer?

Gonzalez: No (laughs). It is always there. Reading contracts and chatting with colleagues is a vision that I will never be able to archive. Of course, I must confess, when such an impact was generated with the film “7 boxes” I had to choose and I decided on acting, which I really love, and I prefer at all costs.

News: What about being a mom?

González: Being a mother made me very sensitive. It is to see life in a different way and priorities have changed. Now I see things differently: the highest priority is my daughter. Fulfilling my dreams and projects and raising her is an enormous responsibility that I share with my partner, her father, who is a good life partner.
