On Friday, March 7, Lady Gaga released her new album Mayhem. The record provides numerous pop songs as you are used to from their previous music. In terms of content, on the other hand, she shows a development in her tracks that has made it personally in recent years. Among other things, she spoke in a new interview.

Back to the roots

To return to your own musical roots and make the sound again, which you may have taken several decades ago, can be a difficult step for many artists. Lady Gaga was similar, even though she did exactly that with her current record. Her first studio album, The Fame (2008), is a dance pop album. In contrast, Born This Way (2011) proved to be clearly rocker and Joanne (2016), for example, included many country elements.

At the beginning of the new album Mayhem, the US star would have worried that she was no longer her teenage ego from the past and had a completely different environment around her. She also does not want a simple repetition of The Fame. “Ultimately, however, I decided that I really wanted to do it and that this sound style and this aesthetics really belong to me,” she says in an interview with the “New York Times”. It was the music that helped her “fall in love with the music”.

In the same interview, the 38-year-old also spoke about how art in the music world is often connected directly to the image of an artist and its “brand”. “It started to work on how I made music,” she says in this regard. This is probably also true for women. “It is the way you talk to you about who you are. When I moved to Hollywood and played my music for Interscope for the first time, there were conversations about how to look. And you think: ‘I will be. How will you get dressed? ‘ Well, I will wear what I usually wear when I’m on stage. They teach you to consider the whole thing as a business and not as a performance. “

Now she is her own boss

Although Lady Gaga has been active in the music industry since her youth and has long since established itself as a world star, it took a long time until she felt like this. “I am sure that this sounds strange to people because they see you at the top of the world and think that you are the boss, but as a woman in the music industry, I would say that it took me 20 years to become the boss. Now it’s me, ”says Gaga. This was mainly due to the people she has in her environment. Among them her fiance Michael Polansky, who co -produced Mayhem.

Finding the right way to talk about exactly this topic sometimes would be difficult Lady Gaga. “I wrestle how to talk about it. Because I would like to acknowledge all the blessings in my life and at the same time work for women in this industry, ”she explains. “There are no laws for who can be a producer and they are not checked by anyone. If you are 17 years old and are invited to a studio, you have no protection. You don’t know where to go. It may be that apart from the person you are working on, there is not even an adult with you. It is not the safest industry, ”she continues.

What comes after psychosis?

Authenticity plays an important role in Mayhem. For Lady Gaga, it was not always easy in the past to distinguish between her own personality and the one on stage and to be authentic. “I have moved so much into the imagination of my works of art and my stage personality that I lost contact,” said the singer. It even went so far that she suffered from psychosis about five years ago. In order to find himself again, Lady Gaga had to look for a way to combine her private and stage personality. So she started living her “Lady Gaga-Boss energy” in her daily life. “But in a powerful way,” she adds.
