Kommersant learned about the court’s decision to restrict Safronov’s lawyers

The Lefortovo Court of Moscow recognized as legal the actions of the FSB officers, who forbade the lawyers of the former correspondent of the Kommersant and Vedomosti publications, adviser to the head of Roscosmos Ivan Safronov, to freely make extracts from the materials of the criminal case. About it informs Kommersant, citing sources.

According to the newspaper, the head of the investigative team of the FSB Investigation Department, Alexander Chaban, forbade lawyers from making extracts from the classified treason case even when it was at the stage of preliminary investigation. This measure applied to all documents included in the case, including those that do not contain state secrets. Lawyers filed two complaints, Kommersant reports.

The defenders pointed out that such restrictions are contrary to the rule of law, since they did not allow extracts even of those data that were not considered secret. Thus, the lawyers believe that Safronov’s right to defense was violated, the newspaper writes. The ex-journalist’s lawyers called the court’s decision predictable, since it was adopted by the same judge who at the end of January limited the defense lawyers and Safronov himself in terms of familiarizing himself with the case materials, Kommersant reports.
