Dutch national coach Ronald Koeman has publicly criticized former Bayern player Ryan Gravenberch. “We’re not happy with Ryan Gravenberch,” said the Bonds coach on Monday after the new signing from Liverpool had canceled for the U21s.
That’s why there was also contact between Nigel de Jong, the sports director of the Dutch association KNVB, and the 21-year-old.
Gravenberch, who switched from record champions Bayern Munich to the island for around 40 million euros on the last day of the transfer, instead wants to “focus on his new club during the international break,” the association said in a statement.
U21 coach Michael Reiziger also warned: “I know Ryan, I think he’s a good boy, a nice guy, but he made the wrong decision,” the 50-year-old told the “Algemeen Dagblad”: “I did told him too.”
Koeman cited Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong as a cautionary tale. “We are not at all happy with the cancellations. You can recommend yourself through good performances in the juniors,” said Koeman.
It is the “duty” of the players to play “in every team”. Frimpong’s non-consideration for the Elftal for the international matches against Greece (September 7) and Ireland (September 10) can therefore be seen as “a punishment”, said Koeman.
