Jorritsma concerned about enforcement with carnival: ‘Hold my heart’

Mayor John Jorritsma of Eindhoven is concerned about the enforcement of corona measures that apply around carnival. He believes that this should be discussed thoroughly in the near future. He said that Monday evening before the Security Council. “I’m holding my heart.”

“The catering industry will open again soon. People want to lug from cafe to cafe. We can all try to facilitate that via QR codes. We will also try to do that, but I will hold my breath,” says the mayor. to a reporter of the NOS.

Large numbers of
He is especially concerned about the large numbers of people who want to celebrate. “It is not a few hundred or a few thousand people. It is about tens of thousands of people who are going to celebrate carnival.” The mayor of Maastricht, Annemarie Penn-te Strake, also shares this concern. “We have six boas walking around in our city on Saturday. If you see how many people celebrate carnival, that is impossible.”

Hubert Bruls, chairman of the Security Council, wants clarity about carnival as soon as possible. “If the catering industry opens, but you are not yet allowed to organize events, how do you do that? That will create tensions, so we have to determine a route for that,” he told NOS.

Bruls says next week he will continue to talk with the mayors and the cabinet about how clarity can be given to carnival associations about what is possible.
