“Two know more than one.” And we knew that at NH. There were dozens of reactions in the mail and on our socials The find in the garden On the Heiloose Korte Kapellaan. We shared all the answers with Vinder Johan Mantz, who is quite overwhelmed by the enthusiasm of all Meedenkers. “This is super, really great fun,” he said delighted.
Johan found a bonk metal when he was placing a embankment in his garden. Because it was suspected that it might be an old explosive, he called in the police. After a check by the explosive clearance service (EOD) it turned out not to be something dangerous. But what was it?
Reactions from all over the country
“The reactions really come from all over the province and far beyond, after the call at NH. I also received many messages from friends who came along. Even the former owner of my home reacted from Drenthe. He had once lost two oil lamps, but this of course could not be.”
The answers from the mails go in all directions, but most of them keep it on a medieval weapon such as a ‘good day’ or ‘morning star’, while others keep it on a slightly more modern attribute: the ball that lower a chimney sweep in the pipe. “At my house from 1917 with six smoke channels there is also such a ball at the household effects,” e -mails an Alkmaarder.
Also found piece of metal and leather
Johan himself doubts a link with chimney sweeps. “The tips of people who think it’s a clapper are more likely to me. That is also because of the ‘shell’ that lay with the bullet. That is a gray, crumpled piece of metal. A detail that might help with the search.”
“It seems painting and feels very slippery. I call it a ‘Beware Shield’, because perhaps a (reserve) clapper was stored in it to keep the shape good, so that the sound stays in the clock. But a part of an age -old sling weapon can also be.”
