Neukölln, Kreuzberg, Mitte, Spandau, Schöneberg – schools in five Berlin districts are hoping for security guards.

At the Abbe-Gymnasium (Sonnenallee), where there was a conflict between students (14, 15) and a teacher (61) over a Palestinian flag, security is already patriotizing.

Education Senator Katharina Günther-Wünsch (40, CDU) sees the situation in Berlin schools as “extremely tense”.

The politician: “It is depressing the emails we receive from school administrators and educators. It starts with graffiti, notices and shoutouts. It ends with concrete threats from students and parents towards educators.”

According to BZ information, teachers are increasingly reporting sick. There were two grueling bomb threats at the Carl von Ossietzky School (Kreuzberg) on the first day of school after the Hamas attack on Israel – the building was evacuated. A planned flash mob in the schoolyard of the B. Traven School (Spandau) as a pro-Palestine action failed because the police were called.

Another problem is intruders. The senator: “Time and time again, people from outside the school try to gain access to the buildings – or they wait at the exit to address the students directly and hand out flyers.”

So far, things have remained completely quiet in the schools in the Pankow, Treptow-Köpenick and Lichtenberg districts.
