In Hollywood it rarely happens that celebrities are sued by photographers – mostly it is the other way around. But Jennifer Lopez is such a case. The singer and actress is currently faced with a copyright lawsuit because she has published photos on her social media, to which she is said to have supposedly not owned the rights.
The plaintiffs request up to $ 150,000 per photo
As the US newspaper “USA Today” reports, photographer Edwin Blanco, together with the Backgrid USA’s photo agency, filed a lawsuit against Lopez. In the application, they accuse her of posting pictures in January 2025 without consent on Instagram and X. The recordings show Lopez on January 4, 2025 at a party in Los Angeles, which took place in the run -up to the Golden Globes.
The plaintiffs argue that the publication of the photos on Lopez ‘channels had taken a far -reaching copyright infringement on the Internet. Fan accounts would then have spread the pictures again. Plus: The Adrienne Landau fashion brand, which had designed the dress for the evening, would also have published a photo of it on its official Instagram page.
The “unauthorized use of the pictures is commercial nature and for the purpose of self -promotion”, according to the “USA Today”. Backgrid and Blanco require damages of up to $ 150,000 per photo, according to the “BBC”.
Agreement reached, but not yet signed
Both sides had tried to join the matter out of court. Jennifer Lopez ‘representatives were in contact with Blanco and Backgrid and offered a payment for the use of the photos. The 55-year-old has not yet signed the agreement.
