it’s a conversation between a deaf and a mute

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is disappointed with the talks with his British counterpart Elizabeth Truss. According to him, they had a “conversation of the dumb with the deaf.”

“It seems that we are listening, but we are not hearing. At least our detailed explanations fell on unprepared ground, in much the same way as they say that Russia is waiting for the ground to freeze and become like a stone so that the tanks can calmly pass to Ukrainian territory. It seems to me that our British colleagues had the same soil today,” Lavrov said at a press conference after a meeting with Truss. The event was broadcast by the TV channel “Russia 24” and media platform “Looking”.

The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry also noted that he does not see common ground with the West on the issue of NATO’s non-expansion to the east.

“I can’t say that we have some points of contact here,” the minister said. “But I hope that today’s talks have allowed our British colleagues to better understand the significance that all this issue has for the Russian Federation.”

Trass arrived in Moscow on February 9 to discuss with Lavrov bilateral relations between Russia and the UKas well as topical issues on the international agenda.
