Italian attractions, from the Colosseum to the Museum of Illusions

Foreigners who love Italian attractions

The survey was carried out by TIQETS, booking platform for museums and attractions (which recently received a $60 million grant from Airbnb). Starting from the increase of ticket sales, which grew by 112% compared to 2021a sort of “ranking” was generated: of the tourists most present in Italian cultural places, of the attractions they prefer and of the attractions most loved by Italians.

first of all, the “top 5” of foreign tourists who, in this last quarter of 2022, visited Italy. On the podium the French (23.12%), and then American (11.9%), English (11.75%), German (8.68%) and Dutch (7%). All travelers of our peninsula particularly appreciate the good food and the unique views that it is able to offer.

Rome, the eternal city, is the most “booked”

But what are their favorite attractions? In pole position among the most booked attractions we find, of course, the Colosseum (33%), the Vatican Museums (22.3%), St. Peter’s Basilica (7.65%) and the Milan Cathedral (6%)., with the Pantheon, the city tour in Rome (with the audio guide app), the Doge’s Palace, the Borghese Gallery and the Uffizi immediately behind. More in detail, the Colosseum and the Vatican Museums are the absolute favorite destinations of the French, followed by the British (Vatican Museums) and Americans (Colosseum); Colosseum which is confirmed at the top among the preferences also for the Germans and the Dutch.

Italian tourists have instead booked a completely different type of attractions: in first and third place on the podium we find, respectively, the Museum of Illusions in Milan (28%) and that of Rome (10.2%), arrived in Italy relatively recently. In second place theGenova’s aquarium (18%), which has always been among the favorite destinations of Italian families and, with a good percentage, also the Selfie Museum of Florence (6%). Followed by the Vatican Museums (9.5%), the Uffizi (7.7%), the Colosseum (6.6%) and the Milan Cathedral (5.9%).

The attractions to book in Spain, France and Portugal

The most visited destinations by Italians in the last quarter of 2022? Spain winsthe favorite of almost 61% of tourists, with Sagrada Familia (24%), Park Güell (21.5%), Casa Batlló (12%) and Plaça Catalunya (9.3%) are the most visited attractions ever. France is also always popular (13.5%) with its Palace of Versailles, a destination booked by 4.5% of tourists. This is followed by Portugal (8.45%) and the Camp Nou football temple, booked by 5.5% of travellers, and Holland (7.2%), where the Keukenhof botanical park is the favorite of almost 7% of Italian users of the booking platform.
