Kurt Krömer commented on the end of the show “Chez Krömer” on Instagram. Regarding the amount of messages that followed the news, he said: “It was a bit like being able to watch your own funeral while others mourn you. But I’m not dead. I’m still alive.”
The turning point for Krömer was the show with Torsten Sträter in episode 1 of the fourth season, in which he spoke publicly about his depression for the first time. “Here I noticed that something new was beginning. A door is opening here and it’s going to be something completely new,” he said. He became aware that “Chez Krömer” was created in a “black, depressive episode” of his life. Nevertheless, he took the format with him to his “New World”, where it no longer fits.
In the video message, the 48-year-old described his relationship with the show as “love-hate”. At some point his body rejected the format. On days on the set and in the editorial office, he was only in a bad mood. That’s why he doesn’t want to torture himself through the show anymore, even if it’s successful. He finds the end of the show “a bit grotesque” because it feels like “a nice breakup”. However, the comedian was also a little disappointed – because Jon Snow from “Game Of Thrones” protected the North Face for eight seasons, he only seven.
At the end of the video, Krömer thanked Friedrich Küppersbusch. The journalist was the producer of the show. The two were a “dream team”. Finally, the comedian quoted himself: “You should stop when it’s most beautiful, even if it was never beautiful.”
On Monday, RBB announced that the show would be discontinued after seven seasons with 41 episodes. In the last episode, Krömer and Faisal Kawusi clashed. Kawusi’s KO drop comment from April 2022 dominated the conversation. Krömer finally broke it off prematurely.
