“It hurt in my heart”: Felix Neureuther suffers with Franziska Preuss

In the women’s biathlon sprint, the German athletes achieved their worst result at the Winter Olympics. Especially Franziska Preuss was extremely frustrated after her 30th place. TV expert Felix Neureuther showed compassion for the situation of the 27-year-old.

After Denise Herrmann’s gold coup in the individual, the German biathletes were disillusioned in the sprint. The DSV women experienced a sporting debacle. Vanessa Voigt only came 18th as the best German when the Norwegian Marte Olsbu Roeiseland won.

Things went even worse for Franziska Preuss, who ended up taking the disappointing 30th place. In general, things have been rough for the 27-year-old in the past few weeks.

Preuss first injured his foot and then became infected with the corona virus. Consequently, the former relay world champion started without real competition practice.

“I’m pretty frustrated at the moment, I don’t enjoy it here,” said Preuss openly on “ARD” after the biathlon sprint and added regarding the difficulties with standing shooting: “I don’t even know what else I’m doing there So I just don’t see any point in continuing.”

TV expert Felix Neureuther, who also suffered a few setbacks in his active career, felt for Preuss. “The interview with Franziska Preuss hurt my heart,” revealed the former alpine skier: “You have to remember why I started sport as a child, what gave me so much joy? And then you need a functioning environment that catches you and then you find your way out again.”

It remains to be seen whether Preuss will start in the upcoming Olympic biathlon races.
