Yaounde (AP) – After leaving as coach of the Nigerian national soccer team, Gernot Rohr is already looking forward to his next challenge.

“As soon as everything is settled, I want to get started again as soon as possible. I have a thirst for adventure and motivation,” said the 68-year-old of the German press agency before the start of the Africa Cup in Cameroon. Rohr had a contract in Nigeria until the end of 2022.

Rohr took over the “Super Eagles” in August 2016. The former Bayern professional, who is back in his second home France, led Nigeria to the 2018 World Cup and finished third with the country at the 2019 Africa Cup in Egypt. A few weeks ago, however, the association separated from him. “That hurts,” said Rohr to the separation, which was accompanied by some problems. “I thought I had a good chance of winning the Africa Cup with Nigeria.”
