Industry looks to export with hope

MNICH (dpa-AFX) – German industry is hoping for increasing exports in the coming months. The index of export expectations calculated by the Munich Ifo Institute rose to 17.4 points in January, as the economic researchers announced on Wednesday. That’s up 4.5 points from the previous month and the highest reading since September.

“The mood among German exporters improved significantly at the beginning of the year,” said Ifo President Clemens Fuest. “Almost all sectors are expecting growth. The only exceptions are textile and clothing manufacturers, printers and the food industry.” On the other hand, particularly significant growth is expected in the electrical and mechanical engineering industries. In the chemical industry there was also a significant increase after three consecutive declines./ruc/DP/eas
