Indonesian crocodile freed from motorcycle tire around neck after 6 years | Abroad

A four-meter-long crocodile in Indonesia, who had been walking around with a motorcycle tire around its neck for more than six years, was eventually freed from the wreck. This is reported by Indonesian media.

The rescuer of the animal is a 35-year-old man from Sragen in central Java named Hili. “I spent weeks preparing to catch the crocodile,” he told Antara news agency. The man descended to the Palu River in central Sulawesi, where several local and international animal experts had already preceded him in an attempt to remove the band from the reptile.

Australian presenter Matthew Nicolas Wright, known for a wildlife program, and American expert Forrest Galante also attempted to remove the band in February and March 2020. Local authorities had promised a reward for those brave enough to try to contain the crocodile and remove the band.

Hili relates that he attached a pigeon and chicken to a bamboo stick and managed to lure the crocodile to the riverbed. He received help from a large group of men who helped the animal onto dry land. There the crocodile was muzzled and the band was removed from its neck. Images circulating on social media show how that happened. Afterwards, the reptile was put back into the river.
