“I hated being a girl”

According to her own words, top model Irina Shayk didn’t feel a real connection to her body as a child.

“I always thought I was born in the wrong body,” the 37-year-old told fashion magazine Elle. “It wasn’t that I wanted to be a boy, but it felt like I didn’t belong in my body.”

While her sister was interested in hairstyles and make-up from an early age, she herself pressed her lips together to make them look smaller. “I hated being a girl,” Shayk explained.

At the time, she argued with her mother, who would have preferred to see her in floral clothing, while Shayk felt more comfortable in darker colors. In fact, her father, who died when Shayk was 14, always wanted a boy, the Russian-born woman explained.(dpa)
