Liam van der Schaaf and Koen Smet immediately succeeded in qualifying for the World Indoor Athletics Championships in the first indoor weekend of the season. The hurdlers of athletics club Phanos both ran under the limit on the 60 meter hurdles.
Van der Schaaf ran a time of 7.72 seconds in Lyon on Friday. With that he clocked a personal best and exactly the time required to participate in the World Cup. Smet was three hundredths faster in Manchester on Saturday. He ran just four hundredths above his personal best at 7.69.
The World Indoor Athletics Championships will take place from March 18 to 20 in Belgrade (Serbia).
