HSV sign László Bénes from Borussia Mönchengladbach

Officially

Hamburger SV presented László Bénes (24) as a new signing. The Slovakian midfielder comes from Borussia Mönchengladbach and will receive a working paper from the North Germans that is dated until 2026. The “Mopo” reports a fee of up to 2 million euros – in Gladbach the seven-time international was under contract until 2024.

Sport board member Jonas Boldt on the third newcomer of the summer: “Despite his young age, he has already gained a lot of experience, and we now want to push his development forward together. It is certainly not a disadvantage that Tim Walter already knows László. With his technical and strategic skills, he can help us out of the game as well as in standard situations.” HSV coach Walter coached Bénes while he was on loan to Holstein Kiel in the second half of 2018/19.

The Hamburgers had previously signed Filip Bilbija (22, Ingolstadt) and Matheo Raab (23, FCK) on a free transfer, and the options to buy loan players Miro Muheim (24, St. Gallen) and Mario Vuskovic (20, Hajduk Split) for a total of 4 .5 million euros activated.

Bénes on his first permanent move since his 5 million transfer from MSK Zilina to Gladbach in the summer of 2016: “The integration into the team will certainly be quick, because I already know a teammate in Jonas Meffert and also the coach. He has his very own game idea and playing football in this way is a lot of fun and suits me very well. At the end of last season I was a spectator in the Volksparkstadion, the atmosphere was really outstanding. So I’m all the happier that I’ll soon be able to play here in the HSV jersey.”
