HSV punishes Jean-Luc Dompé and William Mikelbrencis after car accident

Subject to police investigation

Hamburger SV fined attacker Jean-Luc Dompé (27) and defender William Mikelbrencis (18) for their involvement in a car accident, but did not suspend them for the time being. This was announced by the second division club on Wednesday. Legally, the duo may still have something to do. The police had announced on Tuesday that investigations had been started on suspicion of a prohibited car race and unauthorized removal from the scene of the accident.

According to the police, witnesses had reported that the driver of a BMW and a Mercedes – including on Hafenstraße in the St. Pauli district – are said to have delivered a suspected car race. The driver lost control of the BMW and drove into a bus stop. He then got into the Mercedes and drove away from the scene of the accident.

The police checked the home address of the vehicle owner of the BMW, who is registered on Dompé, who also had a minor injury to his hand. Investigators assume that he is the driver of the accident. According to the announcement, the emergency services also found the two alleged occupants of the Mercedes in the apartment, which belongs to Mikelbrencis, in which he was only a passenger. Both vehicles were seized for further investigation.

“We spoke to Jean-Luc and William and both said unequivocally that we consider their behavior to be absolutely irresponsible and that they expect a corresponding sanction in the form of a hefty fine,” said sports director Jonas Boldt, who emphasized “that we had a clear learning effect expect from both players. We are very happy that no one was injured and nobody was seriously injured. Both should learn from their mistakes as quickly as possible and have to take responsibility for them.”
