HSV protests against red card for PSV

A test match between the second division soccer team Hamburger SV and the top Dutch club PSV Eindhoven (2:2) took a strange turn.

Because Hamburg, of all people, protested against a red card for an Eindhoven defender, the game was quickly converted into two test matches lasting 45 minutes each. The sovereign leaders of the Eredivisie were able to compete again in the second half with eleven players without any violation of the rules.

Second game with the entire Eindhoven team

HSV vs PSV took place at both teams’ training camp in southern Spain. Guilherme Ramos (7th minute) and Robert Glatzel (35th/foul penalty) scored for Hamburg. Former Gladbacher Luuk de Jong scored both goals for Eindhoven (18th/41st). There were no more goals in the second 45 minutes.

Before the goal to make it 2-1, the referee not only decided on a penalty kick for HSV, but also showed PSV defender André Ramalho a red card for an emergency stop. The Hamburg team then worked hard on the pitch and during the half-time break to ensure that at least the expulsion was revoked.

The result of this rare form of protest: former Leverkusen player Ramalho was no longer allowed to continue playing. Officially, a second game began after 45 minutes with a full Eindhoven team.
