Replacement for injured Hüsing
Hansa Rostock has loaned central defender Jonas David from Hamburger SV until the end of the season. The 23-year-old previously extended his contract at the Elbe, which expired in the summer, by a year until 2025. At Hansa, he closes the gap in the defensive center that arose after Oliver Hüsing was injured.
David had already made the leap to the pros with the North Germans in 2018 and has since played 59 competitive games in the jersey of the first team. During the past two seasons, the right-footer with Nigerian roots has been a regular part of the HSV defence, played 13 full-length games in the second half of last season and only missed twice. After the commitments of Guilherme Ramos and Dennis Hadzikadunic (to the Hamburg transfer overview) and in view of the further competition from captain Sebastian Schonlau or Stephan Ambrosius, David’s chances of action were considered low.
“After Oliver Hüsing’s injury-related absence, we wanted to upgrade our defensive network again. With Jonas David, we were able to sign a player who, despite his young age, has already gained a lot of experience in the 2nd division and, above all, in an emotional environment. He is physically robust, plays at a good athletic level and fits in well with our requirement profile thanks to his variable technical and tactical training,” explained Rostock’s sporting director Kristian Walter.

“Jonas has always behaved in an exemplary manner, has never let himself down over the past few days and, last but not least, has given everything for HSV in more than 50 games in the past two seasons. That’s why we don’t want to deny him his wish for more playing time and wish him all the best for the time in Rostock,” said Hamburg’s professional football director Claus Costa.
