Hamburger SV has returned to the top of the table in the 2nd Bundesliga.
Coach Tim Walter’s team won the hard-fought northern duel at Hannover 96 1-0 (0-0) and celebrated their third win in the fourth game of the season. The Lower Saxony conceded their first defeat.
After a red card against Guilherme Ramos (53rd / emergency brake), HSV played outnumbered for a long time and still won thanks to Bakery Jatta’s brilliant long-range hit (69th).
96 coach Stefan Leitl was looking forward to the game: “Prime time, 49,000 spectators – there is little that is more fun this Saturday than playing this game.”
Hannover actually had a little more of the game until the change of sides, but the visitors created the slightly better chances. Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer missed the biggest opportunity with a header from five meters (37′), Hanover’s Nicolo Tresoldi failed a little later to Hamburg’s goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes (41′).
After Ramos was sent off, 96 increased the pressure, Tresoldi (59th) failed acrobatically on the crossbar. A goal was in the air – it was scored by HSV with Jatta’s 20-meter cracker.
