HSV: New stadium for promotion to the Bundesliga

The HSV footballers can look forward to a significantly larger stadium. They play permanently in Hamburg in the second half of the second Bundesliga.

This is great news for HSV’s second division footballers: From now on they will play their home games in the Eimsbüttel sports park, formerly known as the Wolfgang Mayer sports facility, near Hagenbeck’s zoo. HSV announced this on Friday.

So far the games have taken place at the Paul Hauenschild facility in Norderstedt. HSV amateur sports are based there. Because it is only a training ground and not a real venue, a maximum of 300 fans are allowed to travel to the games in the Hamburg suburb. There is room for around 1,700 spectators in Eimsbüttel.

HSV fans have often demonstrated that there is a need: When HSV played the DFB Cup round of 16 against Bayer Leverkusen in Eimsbüttel in November, 1,400 tickets were sold. The weekend before, the HSV women met the second women from FC Bayern Munich at the same location in front of around 1,700 fans.

This is what tickets for HSV women’s games in Eimsbüttel cost

The tickets for the six second half home games have been available online from HSV since Friday. Standing places cost eight euros, seats twelve euros, plus an additional fee of one euro each. There is reduced standing room for four euros for schoolchildren, students, children and young people up to 18 years of age and pensioners.

The HSV women’s next home game will take place on March 3rd (11 a.m.) against Eintracht Frankfurt II. The Hamburg women will then host SV Weinberg (March 17th, 11 a.m.), TSG Hoffenheim II (March 31st, 11 a.m.), VfL Wolfsburg II (April 21st, 2 p.m.) and 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam ( May 5th, 11 a.m.) before FSV Gütersloh 2009 travels to Eimsbüttel on the last match day (May 26th, 2 p.m.).

It’s quite possible that there will be some reason to celebrate: after 14 of 26 match days, the HSV women are at the top of the table with 27 points, tied with SV Meppen and SC Sand. You could be headed straight from the regional to the Bundesliga in May. HSV was last represented there in the 2011/12 season before the team was withdrawn for financial reasons.
