HSV investor does not want to “trust the peace yet”

Shareholder Klaus-Michael Kühne is satisfied with the current development of Hamburger SV. “Overall, the current constellation is favorable because there is peace and the board is well staffed,” said the 86-year-old about the leaders of the 2nd Bundesliga in the “Hamburger Abendblatt”: “The new signings are also convincing. I was in exchange , I’ve been informed of a thing or two.”

But he doesn’t get involved in sporting matters, emphasized Kühne, who has repeatedly provided capital to the struggling HSV in recent years. Most recently, in June, there were funds of 30 million euros, independent of the league.

Kühne, who holds 15.21 percent of the shares in the outsourced professional department, has often expressed dissatisfaction with his commitment to his favorite club in the past. As the current leader of the table, HSV is making its sixth attempt to return to the Bundesliga.

“In sporting terms, we shouldn’t trust peace yet, we’ve often seen the team collapse in the second half of the season,” warned Kühne: “Let’s hope that won’t be the case this time. Hamburg deserves a club in the 1. Bundesliga, after six years, that finally has to happen.”

Kühne leaves open whether he will secure the naming rights to the Volksparkstadion again, as he did in the past. “At a later date you can also talk about the stadium naming rights, but that is not urgent at the moment,” said the entrepreneur.
