Handball Bundesliga club HSV Hamburg had to do without goalkeeper Jens Vortmann for months.
The 34-year-old, who formed a strong duo with long-time national team keeper Johannes Bitter this season, tore his right Achilles tendon in training. Vortmann is to be operated on next week and will be out for at least the first half of the coming season.
