One day after a corona outbreak at Hamburger SV became known, the second division soccer team completed training with 13 field players and four goalkeepers.
The day before, HSV had applied to the German Football League for the home game against FC Erzgebirge Aue planned for Saturday to be postponed because, according to the club, “a large part of the squad and staff has been infected with the corona virus.” Of the 13 healthy field players, Jonas Meffert would not be available on Saturday (1.30 p.m. / Sky) due to a yellow card suspension.
A decision as to whether the game would take place or not had not yet been made at the beginning of the training session. “In order to be prepared for all eventualities, we are preparing for the home game against Aue,” said the Hamburgers via Twitter.
The opposing team from Aue made their way to Hamburg on Friday afternoon because they didn’t want to wait any longer for a decision from the DFL. “If the game is not canceled, we assume that the game will be played. We can’t just leave for Hamburg at 5 p.m.,” said the Saxons when asked by dpa.
