HSV: Boldt announces “changes”, coach Tim Walter stays

Analysis without emotions

Hamburger SV goes into the second half of the season with coach Tim Walter, who has been heavily criticized. The second division team announced this on Friday following an analysis of the first half of the season by sports director Jonas Boldt and sports director Claus Costa with the coaching team. “This analysis process was valuable for all of us. And it’s very good that we started it immediately after the fresh impressions of the first half of the season, without letting ourselves be guided by emotions,” explained Boldt.

“We have completed our internal first half of the season. Everyone involved was very detailed. It wasn’t a superficial observation, but a profound one,” the sports director continued. The result of the discussions and analyzes is a “plan with various individual measures and concrete changes” that should be put into action from the start of training in 2024. This includes, among other things, making everyday processes even more “performance-enhancing”. What exactly was meant by this remained unclear at first – but every individual will be measured by it, said director of professional football Costa in the club’s announcement and added: “We are convinced that we will take the next steps to become even more stable, resilient and as a team to appear more successful.”

Coach Walter also had his say: “We still have room for improvement. We will go into winter preparation and especially the second half of the series with focus, a clear plan and new energy,” the 48-year-old confirmed. After a good start to the season, his team had struggled with a lack of consistency and stability in recent weeks and had repeatedly shown itself to be vulnerable, particularly on defense. After 17 match days at the Volksparkstadion, the Rothosen have seven wins from eight games, but away from home they only have ten points. In the table, the Walter team secured at least the winter in promotion relegation place 3 (to the table) thanks to the recent 2-0 win in Nuremberg.
